Good morning, bow-side boulevardiers!
Potomac’s own cellist comes home to Strathmore tonight with Scottish-Appalachian drive, hometown roots, and that percussive “chop” stealing the melody. The Princeton Review pulls back the drape on college admissions at the Potomac Library tomorrow to learn what actually bumps an app from maybe to yes. And Swing’N on a Star Trio performs Sinatra-era swing with Motown & Latin detours Friday night at Hunters.
Potomac’s never boring. Let’s loop.

A Potomac Cellist Finds Her Voice

Photography: Nick Moreland
Potomac‑raised cellist Ellen Gira returns to Strathmore tonight with a sound forged in Glasgow and rooted here at home.
She first learned piano from a neighbor, picked up cello at Cabin John Middle, and played with Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra in the same hall where she performs her Artist in Residence Debut concert tonight at 8pm.
Expect the cello on both melody and groove, powered by the percussive “chop.” Her path runs from Scottish stages and performances for King Charles III to award‑winning work with Jocelyn Pettit and a new trio, Vandalia.
